Road Trips Corfu Town Road Trip This Road Trip explores some of the ‘must see’ sights in Corfu Town and some of the more authentic villages of Corfu Island’s centre. There is always plenty to see and you can always add more onto our suggestions or simply go with the flow and see where life takes you.

As you come out of Corfu’s International Airport turn right towards the water front called Garitsa Bay.

Just before you arrive at the water front you reach a set of traffic lights with a road sign on the right towards Kanoni. Turn right here along a one way road and stay on it until you reach a large three way junction with the Mon Repos Palace gates on your left.

Mon Repos garden grounds are a delightful haven of thick almost tropical vegetation, ancient temple ruins and a dip in undiscovered treasure full waters.

Continue towards Kanoni for an exhilarating and unique world view of Corfu’s Kapodistrias International Airport runway. Kids both young and old love to see this and if you venture down to Vlacherna Monastery or catch the boat to Mouse Island you can see the planes flying just over your head.

Follow the one way road you came on right back to Garitsa Bay and the set of traffic lights that take you to the airport.

As you pass the entrance to the airport you head south on the national Lefkimi Road. Stay on this road through two sets of traffic lights for approximately 3km until you see a blue national road sign for Vyros and Kalafationes on your right.

The best place to buy your bread from is in Kouramades.

From here you will start a gentle ascent towards Corfu’s central villages of Kalafationes, Varipatades and Kouramades. These villages have not changed much over time for they have remained out of the reach of tourism. They have eloquent Venetian style architecture with the local Kafenion offering a front row seat from which to absorb the way things unfold here.

As you drive past the central barber shop and church in Kouramades keep to your right until you exit onto the main Sinarades to Pelekas road.

Turn right towards Pelekas until you reach the main Pelekas junction and road signs directing you to the village of Pelekas on your left. Pelekas has known tourism since the hippie 60’s with Swedish nature lovers getting married on the beach bellow.

Drive to the top of Pelekas Hill until you reach the Levant Hotel and Keiser’s Throne for spectacular 360 views of Corfu.

From here you can pick and choose one of the central coast’s golden sand beaches. Glyfada, nudist Myrtiotissa, Kontogialos, Ermones or Agios Gordis to the south are popular with locals and tourists alike. The Corfu Golf Course is nearby and so is Aqualand in Agios Ioannis.
